Structural steel fabrication is at the heart of Kansas City Structural Steel’s operation.
Wide flange and tube-shaped columns are cut to length, prepared with base & cap plates, and prepared to receive steel beams. Steel beams are cut to length, cambered if necessary, and prepared with connections to steel columns & other beams. Projects with needs for longer spans sometimes require steel trusses. Steel trusses include continuous top & bottom chords with intermediate vertical or diagonal bracing, and can be framed with wide flange, tube, angle, or WT construction. Truss depths will vary, generally between 5 and 10 feet deep, and can be shop assembled to nearly any length on our shop floor. Truss lengths of over 100 feet have been assembled and shipped in single pieces, in this fabrication shop. Building stadium and arena projects, Kansas City Structural Steel will also shop assemble a lot of tiered seating support beams that span a long distance, with shop attached connections for riser & seating attachments. As trusses & beams are set to support steel deck, the perimeter of every floor and roof will require deck edge, to maintain the floor or roof’s shape. This deck edge can be attached to the structural steel frame in the shop, as well as in the field. These deck edge conditions are can sometimes cantilever off the perimeter beams a great deal and will require additional framing.
